Is God Really First in Your Mind and in Your Heart?
Those who have a special place in our heart are also the ones we keep top of mind. We bake their favorite desserts. We call when we’re running late. We bite our tongue when they make us angry. How do we manage to keep them so close in our hearts and minds? Well, for one, we probably see them a lot of the time. We directly interact with them. We’re faced with the importance of getting along every day. So how can we keep God top of mind in order to consider His feelings and work on developing a closer relationship with Him? One way is to begin to see Him everywhere; because He is everywhere. We’re living and breathing His handy work every single day. When you begin to take conscious action to see the Lord as real, it then becomes a little easier to consider His feelings. God wants us to be with Him. He loves us as the children we are to Him. He wants us to recognize Him as our Father. Can you imagine the pain the Lord must feel when we’re cruel to each other? The sorrow He must feel when a little child suffers some type of abuse? To keep the Lord top of mind in your life, begin by adding one small thing to your day that allows you to focus on Him. Maybe when you wake up in the morning you say “thank you for another day” and ask for His strength and guidance during the day. Maybe it’s taking a few minutes to read a Bible chapter each day. Whatever it is, once you make it a habit (which takes about 30 days according to psychologists), add another small behavior. Before you know it, you’ll be feeling God’s presence more strongly as you go through your day, basking in the glow of His love and reflecting to others His love for you.
